Anahory Almeida / São Lourenço do Barrocal

The search by Anahory Almeida architecture and design studio for the suitable dinnerware  for São Lourenço do Barrocal, a farmscape hotel located in Alentejo, was the perfect opportunity to complete an old project, that of developing an “up-to-date” dinnerset inspired in the shapes and usages of Portuguese traditional pottery.
To increase resistance and diminish absorption, in order to comply with hotel’s and restaurant’s more demanding usability, the original terracotta was replaced for fine stoneware. The stoneware’s lighter colour also allowed us to explore the colour of the glaze and it’s transparency in a way that brings out the traces of the potter’s work
and of his hands.
The items thrown at the wheel by potter João Coelho, in his pottery located in Moitalina, were glazed and finished at Amasso factory, in Aljubarrota.
